The composition of the Ivy League
The Ivy League is an elite group of American colleges. The schools are sometimes also called «The Ancient Eight». The group includes the following universities:
- Harvard University
- Yale University
- Princeton University
- Columbia University
- Dartmouth College
- Brown University
- Cornell University
- University of Pennsylvania
The schools were founded between 1701 and 1874, and all are private institutions.

Harvard University has been ranked as one of the top five universities in the world by U.S. News & World Report since 2011. Yale University is another Ivy League school with a high concentration of successful alumni. According to the Wall Street Journal, Yale graduates earn an average salary of $120,000 per year. This figure includes both full-time employees and part-time workers.
Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale University was founded in 1701 as King George’s College. It became Yale College in 1833 and then Yale University in 1841. Today, Yale has more than 30,000 students enrolled at its undergraduate and graduate programs.
Princeton University has been ranked as one of the top schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report since 2011. It was also named the #1 university in the country by Forbes Magazine in 2014.
Founded in 1746, Princeton University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the United States. Its campus is located in Princeton, New Jersey. Stanford University was founded by Leland Stanford in 1885 as the first land-grant college in California. It has since grown to be one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Stanford University is consistently ranked among the top ten universities in the world. In addition to being home to the prestigious School of Medicine, Stanford offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and graduate programs.
Columbia University was founded in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter granted by Queen Anne. It is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Located in Manhattan, New York City, Columbia has been ranked as the number one university in the U.S. News & World Report rankings since 2007. Columbia University has also been ranked as one of the top schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report since its inception in 1829. It was also named the #1 university in the country by Forbes Magazine in 2015.
